Ms. O’ Donovan’s 5th Class

Class Novel
We are reading and enjoying our class novel WarHorse. The book is based on the realities and tragedies of WW1. We think the book is sombre yet exciting and we look forward to finding out what happens in the end.

For the first time ever, Parteen N.S. are participating in the Junior Entrepreneurship Programme. We split into groups and came up with our own business ideas. We presented our ideas to 3 Dragons and our chosen idea was Rapid T-Shirts. We will be marketing and selling our customised T-Shirts.
Rapid T-Shirts will be launching soon!

Easter Bonnets
Our class have started to make Easter Bonnets which follows a class tradition for the past few years. We will showcase the finished bonnets to all the other classes before the Easter holidays. There may be some prizes for the most original creations!

Diocesan Visitor
We had an interesting class visit from Sr. Rose Miriam who originally came from America and is now working in Limerick City. She told us about her life as a nun and about her rosary beads and habit that she wears. Her visit was informative and insightful.

Class Sport
We recently attended gaelic football blitzes in Tulla and Meelick.
We are playing a hockey blitz on the 28th of March against Scoil Íde and The Modh Scoil.
Thank you to our teachers for training the teams and organising the matches. We enjoy representing our school and being active.

We prepared a class debate. The motion of the debate was ‘Television is a waste of time’. We divided the class and it made for an interesting debate.

Seachtain na Gaeilge
To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge we held a table quiz in the school halla for 5th and 6th class. We had questions on history, geography, science, books, sport, entertainment a dingbat round and an Irish round. The scores were very close but in the end three teams were awarded prizes.
Here is a sample question

Niall Mc Guane and Katie Monahan

We also learnt the Haka Gaelach, Ireland’ s Call and Amhrán na bhFiann.
